FFA Private Bank has recently appointed Dr. Shadi Karam as a new Board Member by virtue of the general assembly resolution dated: 18/06/2010.
Dr. Karam is a graduate of the American University of Beirut, Columbia University – New York, N.Y., and Harvard University – Cambridge, Mass., USA.
His professional experience is mostly in Finance & Banking.
He has occupied the post of Financial Advisor to the Director General of UNESCO, and has been a Chairman and CEO of several companies in Europe and the Middle East in various sectors, ranging from Industry to Real Estate development, Hotels, Trading and Financial services.
He has specialized in the restructuring of distressed companies and banks.
He is credited with the restructuring and modernization of the Real Estate Bank of Syria, a State-owned bank, and the spectacular turn around of BLC, one of the major commercial banks of Lebanon.
At the behest of the Government, he has taken an active part in the modernization of the banking sector in Syria, its liberalization and its opening to international financial markets.
He has also been a professor of Economics, Finance and Banking at several universities, such as Harvard (USA), The University of Southern Europe (Monaco), and the Institut des Etudes Politiques – IEP (Paris).
He is presently the Vice Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, Lebanon and sits on several boards of corporations and commercial and investment banks in Lebanon and Syria.
A patron of the arts, he is also the President of the Association Libanaise pour le Développement du Mécénat Culturel.
He has several published studies and articles on financial, banking, political and social issues.
He is a Grand Officer of the Spanish Order of Isabella the Catholic and Officer of the Lebanese Order of the Cedar.
